ABOUT US
Brian & Pat Jacobson are located 7 miles or 11.2 KM south of Spiritwood SK, on Highway 378 on the West side. Along with Brian & Pat daughter Tara also works with the horses.
Brian started his Bareback Riding rodeo career winning the 1975 CCA Bareback Riding Championship. Moving forward joining the CPRA at the end of 1975 and PRCA in 1978 where he won the PRCA Bareback Riding Rookie Championship, throw in a few trips to the Canadian Rodeo Finals where along with fellow Bareback Rider Gene Millar, they held the honour of sharing the highest scored bareback ride record for many years. He suffered a second injury to his riding arm that ended his Pro Rodeo career.
Through all this he maintained a Cow/Calf operation. We are longtime cattle producers from backgrounding, feedlot, commercial Cow/Calf then a purebred herd winning many Canadian awards to owning and operating Spiritwood Stockyards (1984) Ltd. for the last 19 years.
We still maintain a Cow/Calf herd, selling a few Bred Heifers every year. While we are getting to the point in life where we decided we wanted to slow down (HAHAHA) we decided to plunge into the raising of Quarter horses. We both love horses and they have always been a big part of our lives.
We did the research, visited different places, and slowly started purchasing Mares that were in foal along with a couple yearlings and foals that we wanted to break & train ourselves. We bought some foals and Mares from Ace of Clubs Quarter horses and really liked their program, Mandi and Shelbie run a great operation and have been very kind, helpful and generous to us. They helped us out with Stallions our first year and offer great advice whenever we ask.
We have put together what we feel is a great selection of 13 mares full of promise. We are focusing on our values which are horses that are sound minded and highly trainable, with good bone and feet. Our goal is to provide proven horses for everyday ranching as well as performance horses for a variety of disciplines.
A little more than a year ago we bought a Stallion NR Hickaboon grandson of Peptoboonsmal on the sire side and grandson of Doc's Hickory on the dam side from our longtime friend (the late) Walter Chesla of Chesla Farms. We have our 2021 foal crop on the ground now and we are more than excited.
